Egyptian embassy in Colombo celebrates the glorious opening of its Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo

COLOMBO — Egypt,recently, celebrated a historic milestone with the grand opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo — the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.

The evening celebrated Egypt’s rich heritage and the strong cultural ties between Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, while also highlighting new opportunities for collaboration in tourism and investment following the museum’s inauguration.
The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum stands as a proud testament to Egypt’s enduring legacy, bridging history, culture, and modern innovation, and inviting the world to rediscover the wonders of ancient Egypt.

Located near the Giza Pyramids, the GEM showcases over 100,000 artefacts, including the complete treasures of King Tutankhamun, marking a new chapter in Egypt’s cultural and tourism landscape.
To honour this monumental event, the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sri Lanka and the Maldives hosted a special reception on 6th November 2025 in Colombo at Cinnamon Grand Colombo. The event, held under the guidance of Ambassadorof the Arab Republic of Egypt Adel Ibrahim, brought together Ambassadors, VIPs, investors, and key figures from the tourism industry.
