Eagles Catalina Medal Golf tournament ends in Koggala

KOGGALA :The Air Force Eagles’ Golf Links and Courses, under the  guidance of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, proudly hosted the inaugural Eagles’ Catalina Medal Golf Tournament, which concluded on 17 August 2024 at the Eagles’ Catalina Golf Course in Koggala. This event added another thrilling chapter to Sri Lanka’s golf landscape, blending history and sport to offer participants an unparalleled experience.

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, graced the tournament as the Chief Guest. 

The Eagles’ Catalina Medal featured a competitive field, with 40 golfers vying for top honours. 

Among the individual accolades, Ms. Praveena Dunuwila and Air Vice Marshal Suresh Fernando were recognized for their outstanding performance, receiving awards for the Longest Drive in the Ladies’ and Gents’ categories, respectively. The Runners-Up awards for Gross Score were claimed by Ms. Manori Jayakodi in the Women’s category and Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe (Retd) in the Men’s category. 

In the Net Score category, Ms. Praveena Dunuwila and Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe (Retd) were honored as Runners-Up in the Women’s and Men’s categories, respectively. Ms. Praveena Dunuwila and Wing Commander Prabath Wijekoon emerged as the winners in the Gross Score category for the Ladies’ and Gents’ divisions. 

The prestigious Eagles’ Catalina Monthly Medal for August was awarded to Ms. Manori Jayakodi, who secured the Winner Net Score in the Ladies’ category, while Air Commodore Erandika Gunawardana earned the Winner Net Score and the Eagles’ Catalina Monthly Medal for August in the Gents’ category.

The awards for this first-ever Eagles’ Catalina Medal were presented during a festive Awards Ceremony held at the venue in the afternoon. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by the Chief of Staff, Chairman SLAF Golf along with SLAF Golf officials, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Koggala and the competitors.

The participants left with a wealth of enjoyable memories from this inaugural Eagles’ Catalina Medal Golf Tournament, looking forward to the upcoming monthly editions that will continue to bring excitement to the Eagles’ Catalina Golf Course in Koggala.
