Doctors’ strike ends on Sunday, resumes on Monday

COLOMBO -The Government Medical Officers’ Association, which concluded a 48-hour strike at 8:00 AM today, has decided to resume trade union action starting tomorrow.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) commenced a 48-hour strike last Friday based on several key demands:

Establishing a distinct service category named the Sri Lanka Medical Service.

Updating the DAT (Disturbance, Availability, and Transport) allowance.

Resolving transport issues in accordance with the 22/99 circular.

Converting the Extra Duty Allowance into a fixed allowance, and

Resolving issues regarding the Research Allowance.

Due to the strike, patients arriving at government hospitals over the past two days faced immense hardship. Following the conclusion of the strike, the Executive Committee of the GMOA convened this evening.

Although they will report for duty starting tomorrow, the GMOA has decided to withdraw from five specific services, including prescribing medicines for external purchase and recommending external laboratory tests. news First
