Diversity is not a drawback, it is a cause for celebrations- FM Ali Sabry

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s foreign minister Ali Sabry said diversity is not a drawback and it should be a cause of celebrations like the Iftar hosted by the Indian embassy in Colombo on Tuesday.

Sabry was speaking at the Iftar reception hosted by Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay ay the Galle Face Hotel on Tuesday, April 11

A group of distinguished invitees including ministers, parliamentarians, community leaders, public and private officials were present at the reception .

Sabry further said unity in diversity is the best practice and people must learn to understand one another’s values and should coexist peacefully for the greater good of the nation .

He said Sri Lanka is thankful to India for all the help and support it gave for the grant of $3.9 billion from the International Monetary Fund. “ India has helped us in difficult times ,” Sabry added.

“ When we gathered at Iftar hosted by the same Indian High Commission in Col,ombo last year, things did not look good. Today, we stand stronger. We may not be out of the just yet, but we are on the right path. We are grateful to the people and the Government  of India for standing by us and supporting us,” Sabry concluded

High Commissioner Baglay said Sri Lanka and India are woven based on their social , fraternal and cultural values . India, on its part, always there with Sri Lanka under its neighborhood policy.

Buddhasasana ,Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickremanayake was also present at the event.
