
COLOMBO – The Diplomatic Sports Club successfully inaugurated its 8th Annual Diplomatic Cup Cricket and Football Tournament at D.S. Senanayake College Grounds, Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 07, on Saturday, October 4.
The event brought together ambassadors, counselors, senior embassy staff, and secretaries from various diplomatic missions, along with officials from the event’s main sponsor, Mitsubishi Motors.
Teams from Saudi Arabia, India, the United Kingdom, UAE, Kuwait, Switzerland, Oman, Canada, South Africa, Australia, the Maldives, and Qatar participated in the tournament. International organizations such as the ICRC, UNOPS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United Nations also fielded teams, showcasing the spirit of global unity through sport.
However, due to inclement weather, the matches were postponed for a later date.. Diplomatic Sports Club Chairman Saleem Siraj announced that the tournament will resume in two weeks. The Football semi-finals between British Council, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and India and the Cricket semi-finals between British Council, UAE, India and UN will be held on that day.
