Devika,doyen of the airline industry, bids adieu to Emirates completing more than 3 decades of service

COLOMBO : Devika Ellepola ended her career at Emirates Airlines in Colombo on 16th February.
Devika Ellepola retired from her remarkable career as the Sales Manager, with over 40 years of experience in the aviation and travel industry,

She had the privilege of contributing to Emirates’ (EK) growth and success, particularly in Sri Lanka (CMB). Her journey began at Air Lanka in 1984, and in 1990, joined Ceylon Tours (GSA) as a Sales Executive, promoting the Singapore flight for Emirates. In 1998, she took on the role of Sales Manager at Emirates, where she continued to grow the brand and helped it endure through numerous industry setbacks, including the civil war, tsunami, economic crisis, Easter bombing, and COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout her career, she remained committed to achieving consistent year-on-year targets and played an instrumental role in stabilizing the station through the introduction of BSP and USD fares. These initiatives provided stability during some of the most challenging times in the industry. Her efforts have been recognized by Emirates’ management, and have received multiple awards, both for the station’s performance and for her individual contributions.

She takes pride in her role in positioning Emirates as a premium brand in Sri Lanka since its launch in 1986. In addition to her role as Sales Manager, she expanded her knowledge through direct interactions with key personnel at both the Head Office and in Sri Lanka. This allowed her to collaborate closely with travel agents, hosting events such as rallies, award nights, and sports activities, which fostered loyalty and strong relationships with the industry partners.

She always ensured that Emirates was well-represented and protected in all aspects of her work, consistently contributing to the company’s reputation and success.
