
KUALA LUMPUR : The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur celebrated Deepavali – The Festival of Lights on 30 October 2025 at the Mission premises. The event symbolized Sri Lanka’s commitment to unity, peace, and reconciliation while honouring the cultural and spiritual significance of Deepavali.
Over one hundred participants attended, including members of the Sri Lankan community in Malaysia, officials from Malaysian institutions, and representatives from the Federation of Malaysian Sri Lankan Organisations (FOMSO), Malaysia–Sri Lanka Business Council (MSLBC), Negeri Sembilan Ceylonese Association (NSCA), Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI), Malaysian Sinhalese Association (MSA), Sri Lankan Muslim Professionals and Business Association (SLAMP), Malaysian Indian Tours and Travel Association (MITTA), and the Jaffnese Co-operative Society. Journalists, private-sector leaders, and well-wishers were also in attendance.
The Mission premises were beautifully decorated with colourful Kolam designs, banana trees, lanterns, and traditional oil lamps, creating a serene atmosphere reflecting the festival’s message of the triumph of light over darkness. The programme commenced with a Hindu pooja and blessings conducted by Swami Muralitharan Kurukkal from Kajang Murugan Temple, invoking spiritual warmth and harmony.
M. I. Mohamed Rizvi, Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, welcomed the gathering and highlighted Deepavali’s message of renewal and unity. Datuk A. Yogeswaran, President of FOMSO, and Mrs. Thana Magendran of MSLBC delivered remarks on the significance of the festival. In conjunction with the celebration, the Mission featured a presentation on “Ramayana Trail – Spiritual Tourism in Sri Lanka,” showcasing sacred sites linked to Seetha Devi, Hanuman, Ravana, and Rama. The initiative promoted Sri Lanka’s spiritual tourism and cultural heritage.
A graceful classical dance by Laasya Arts Academy students added cultural splendour, followed by the sharing of traditional sweets and authentic Sri Lankan cuisine.
