COLOMBO: Around 500 midwives in various parts of Sri Lanka are currently affected by the Covid virus,Government Midwives’ Association (GMA) President Devika Kodituwakku said here on Monday, August 9.
Midwives are the healthcare personnel who look after the maternal health of the pregnant mothers.
The president said About12- 15 midwives contract COVID-19 daily due to the prevailing situation.
Since the early 20th century in Sri Lanka, the Public Health Midwife (PHM) has delivered community-level maternal and child healthcare. The PHM is the “front line” health worker providing domiciliary care to women and children within the community and is the link between the community and institutional health care.
