Court Order : Namal Rajapaksa’s Remand Extended Until October 16

COLOMBO – Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and Krrish Group Director Janaki Siriwardena have been further remanded until October 16 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The order was issued when the two suspects were produced before court today in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged Rs. 70 million Krrish transaction.

Prison officials produced Namal Rajapaksa before court earlier today. The parliamentarian was named as a suspect in the case being maintained by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in relation to the Rs. 70 million Krish transaction on September 28.

During proceedings before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama on September 29, investigating officers attached to the Bribery Commission informed court that the Indian Government had conveyed that the funds used in the Krrish transaction were allegedly linked to illicit financial activity.

The first suspect in the case, Janaki Siriwardena, a director of Krrish Group, had also been remanded until today. She too was produced before court during today’s proceedings.

Following the submissions made before court, the Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered that both Namal Rajapaksa and Janaki Siriwardena be further remanded until October 16, pending further proceedings in the case.
