Construction of protective fencing at the Covid Burial Grounds at Oddamawadi Batticaloa begins, List of 3634 people buried to be catalogued

COLOMBO : Work has commenced on the Elephant Protective electric fence at the Covid Burial grounds at Majma Nagar Oddamawadi Batticaloa

This location remains the final resting place for 3634 deceased persons  Comprising of Buddhists Hindus Muslims and Christians who requested for burial were transported and buried at this location. However It was one of the major concerns of the relatives of the deceased who were buried that the burial site should be protected and a group of philanthropists with the approval of the Chairman Oddamawadi Praseshiya Sabha M A Nawfer have commenced task.

It was also decided to catalogue and collect all information from all families who had to undergo this difficult burial process during the epidemic. A team of members from  the Kandy District Masjid federation under the leadership  of its president K M A Sideek  undertook this task and has set up a task force. They said that in a near future a questionnaire will be soon sent to all  the families of the deceased to  provide the information that needs to recorded for the future history. As stage two of this project a boundary wall and a Visitor reception center has also been planed at this location. The national Muslim Assembly which also participated at the event was represented by Afzal Marikar, Suhail Jamaldeen and Aman Ashraff.
