COLOMBO; My heartfelt condolences on the passing of the late Vidya Jyoth i Professor Rezvi Sheriff, Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Consultant Nephrologist.
His departure represents a profound loss not only for our community but for Sri Lanka’s entire medical fraternity. Late Professor Sheriff was an internationally acclaimed true pioneer in the field of modern nephrology in Sri Lanka. He served with great distinction as a Senior Professor of Medicine and Consultant Physician, mentoring generations of doctors while making invaluable contributions toward strengthening the nation’s healthcare system.
A proud old boy of our Royal College and Zahira College, Colombo, he obtained MBBS , MD from University of Colombo.Prof Sheriff was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and the Ceylon College of Physicians.
Late Professor Sheriff served as Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Senior Professor of Medicine, and Head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He was also a Senior Professor of Medicine at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
Beyond his remarkable professional achievements, Professor Sheriff will be remembered for his compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to his patients and students, and all Sri Lankans alike. His legacy of excellence, integrity, and selfless service will continue to inspire future generations in the medical field. He was widely known for his generous charity and his devoted service to those in need, including Muslims and members of all communities across Sri Lanka.
I extend my deepest sympathies to his grieving family during this difficult time. May Almighty Allah grant him the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus and reward him abundantly for his dedicated service to humanity.
