COLOMBO: The 2nd dose of AstraZeneca vaccination fixed for Thursday, July 8,has been cancelled until further notice, Chief Epidemiologist at the Colombo Municipal Council,(CMC) Dr.Dinu Guruge told Colombo Times on Wednesday, July 7.
Last week, the CMC administered the second dose of AstraZeneca for those who are above 70 years. On Wednesday,July 7, the CMC started vaccinating the 2nd dose for all those who are above the age of 50 years within the Colombo city limits. Those vaccinated were given due notice mentioning the date, time and venue of the vaccination stations.
Mayor of Colombo, Rosy Senanayake told the press on Wednesday : “ We have got news that the required AstraZeneca doses will be arriving by third week of July. So, we were advised to stop giving Pfizer as a second dose and wait till third week of July for Astrazeneca’s second dose.
“ We had to cancel tomorrow’s (Thursday) appointments. Very sorry for the inconvenience,” she added.
