COLOMBO : Cinnamon Red, the baby of the Cinnamon Colombo Hotels, in terms of size but certainly not by height glowed last week when Santa Clause descended from their 26th floor for the ceremonial Christmas tree lighting event.
Hotel Guests, invitees and even the large number of people gathered alongside the road of Green Path, on which this state of the art hotel is situated, were goggled eyed to witness this breathtaking spectacle where the Santa literally descended from the façade of the hotel from quite a height.
This novel idea was executed to military precision by the Cinnamon Red team headed by veteran hotelier, General Manager Cinnamon Red, Terrence Fernando who ceremoniously switched on the Christmas lights with Santa simultaneously reaching the ground to thunderous applause from the on-lookers. The hotel lived up to its name ‘red’ as they certainly painted the town red with the Christmas lighting event and the theme red seemed to blend well with the festive colures too!
The holiday season thus commenced with a lot of joy last week at the ‘red’ with a toast wishing the best to all gathered. The well-wishers were in for a treat with a splendid serving of tall red glasses of mulled wine, minced pies and as per the very words of the ‘red’, with “no minced words but a promise of joy to the bold”.
One cannot but notice at the Cinnamon red Lobby itself, the Christmas Goodies Counter that’s been open since November 29th from 10 am to 10pm and will continue right through the season. The seasonal delights on offer at this ‘Stirred Christmas counter’ will certainly stir your taste buds with the Ginger Cookies, Yule logs, and cakes that slay, as they say these days.
But what is most attractive to the ladies in particular will be the Festive High Tea Buffet on four special dates set apart for this-; 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th December. Yule Logs, Minced Pies, literally all things that define Christmas afternoons, cannot simply be missed.
The Christmas fare at the ‘Cinnamon Red’, now more fondly called simply ‘the red’, sounds sumptuous. Christmas Eve Dinner Buffet at the ‘Flavoured’, will serve their famed succulent Turkey accompanied by the vast array of holiday favourites from all over the world.
The Christmas Day Lunch buffet will be replete with seasonal delights and traditional favourites. The Christmas Day Dinner Buffet will include the traditional and non-traditional, classic and yet be avant-garde. Thus the best of dishes that the entire family can enjoy will be spread out in a festive- spirited atmosphere.

The New Year celebrations at the ‘red’ have an equally spectacular fare- a gastronomic journey to be experienced like no other at the roof-top, namely Cloud Red.
