CID INQUIRY: Ex-prime minister Rajapaksa denies any knowledge of May 9 attacks on protesters

COLOMBO : Ex-Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa told the CID that he did not incite SLPP supporters to attack the protesters opposite Temple Trees and the Presidential Secretariat on May 9.

The former Prime Minister had informed CID officials that if he had got any information of an impending attack on the protesters, he could have averted it definitely, sources said.

The former Prime Minister in his statement said that he came to know about the attack on May 9 evening.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had recorded a statement from former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa over the May 9 violance.

Speaking to the Daily News Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the former Prime Minister had recorded a statement on the incidents that occurred on May 9, where pro-government protesters had attacked the peaceful protest at Galle Face.
