COLOMBO — A Press Conference was held at the St Peters College Bambalapitiya on 1st December 2021 in connection with the centenary celebration of St. Peter’s College and the launched of the Centenary Logo and the song at the College premises.
The College was inaugurated on 18th January 1922 as a branch of St. Joseph College Maradana. Presently 4305 students and 217 teachers in this college and shined in the Education and Sports field and a leading Catholic College.
Rector of St. Peters College Rev. Fr. Rohitha Rodrigo said at the media briefing Fr. Maurice Le Goc, founding Rector who was Rector of St. Joseph’s College at from strength to strength branching out now having 2 branch schools in Udugampola in Gampaha and Kurana in Negombo.
Further he said several events have been organized through the centenary year that will be held from 18th January 2022 to 18th January 2023.
The main celebration will be held on the day of the 100th Anniversary on 18th January 2022, Graced by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith in order to mark the occasion will be publishing a Coffee Table Book with the history of St. Peter’s College and Issue of commemorative stamp.
A musical programme was also held with the Peterite musicians who have made a mark in the country and “Bhawa” An oriental musical and cultural presentation. The Teachers Felicitation will be held on 4th June 2022 including an organize of a charity program with the help of all students led by Prefects’ body and the Interact club to mark the centenary celebration.
Rector of St. Peters College Rev. Fr. Rohitha Rodrigo launched the Centenary Logo and Jubilee Song sung by the Peterite Chorale at this event.
Head Master Noel Cooray and President of the Old Boys Union Ravika De Silva also addressed the press conference.
Head Prefect of the College Master Ovindu Athukorale proposed the vote of thanks.
