The bus priority lane rule is set to be enforced again in Colombo and surrounding areas from today (29).
The rule will be enforced from 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake said the programme will be introduced from today as a pilot project.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA), Gemunu Wijeratne said the association will extend its full support for the programme.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Manoj Ranagala of the Police Traffic Control and Road Safety Division said all police officers have been instructed to take legal action against those who violate the bus priority lane rule.
Meanwhile, the Metro Bus service will be expanded across Colombo city, with operations commencing on five additional routes from today.
