COLOMBO : The Chinese embassy here distributed some 600 packets of dry rations to the needy Muslims in Kollupitiya on Sunday afternoon from the Jumma Mosque in Kollupitiya.
Under the Faxian Charity Project, 50,000 boxes of dry rations from seven Chinese temples and devotees are to be distributed to needy Sri Lankan families from all communities.
Sri Lankan foreign minister, Ali Sabry who was present at the event said : “ Glad to take part in the Faxian Charity Project, organized today at #Kollupitiya Jumma Masjid as it distributed boxes of dry rations to needy families on behalf of seven Chinese temples and their followers. Chinese Ambassador, Qi Zhenhong who took part in the event with the foreign minister said the donations came from the Buddhists and temples from China to the deserving people in the island.
Kollupitiya Masjid Federation President Rizan Hussain told Colombo Times that some 600 packets of dry rations were distributed among the deserving families in the Kollupitiya area. The packs will also be distributed among the other communities in due course. “ Since it was Ramadan time, Muslims became the first beneficiaries and others would follow,” he added.
