COLOMBO- The Buddha Saasana and Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickremanayake dissolved the present Wakf Board on Tuesday, July 5 with immediate effect
The outgoing members of the Wakf Board comprise Shabry Haleemdeen, A. Uthuman Lebbe, Zacky Ahmed, Asheikh M Arkam Noorahmith, M Rafeek Ismail, M Siraj Abdul Wahid and Moulavi M.F. Fasrul.
In a circular addressed on behalf of Minister Wickremanayake, the ministry’s Secretary Somaratne Withanapathy has said that the minister wants to appoint new members to the board and he was requesting the existing members to quit for a swift take-over by the new office-bearers who will be nominated soon.
Somaratne said that the minister was acting on the powers vested in him under section 33 of the 1982 of the Wakf Board Ordinance.
