Batticaloa International Airport to be developed to support the domestic aviation and tourist industry.

Batticaloa : Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister of Tourism visited the Battocaloa airport on Thursday, July 1  to discuss the future development opportunities of the Batticaloa International Airport (BTIA) and how it could contribute to domestic travel and the tourism industry in Sri Lanka.

A special meeting was at Batticaloa International Airport (BTIA) with the participation of the Minister of Tourism, D V Chanaka, State Minister of Civil Aviation and Export Zone Development, Representatives of Members of Parliament of Batticaloa district, Major General (Rtd) G. A. Chandrasiri, Chairman AASL, Rajiv Sooriyaarachchi, Vice Chairman-AASL, Ms. Deirdre De Livera, Director AASL, Senior Officials of Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited and the other BTIA Stakeholders. 

The Batticaloa International Airport, the Gateway to Eastern Sri Lanka, was reopened for civil operations in 2018 and is geo-strategically located 2.4km Southeast of the city of Batticaloa awakening the eastern coast of Sri Lanka connecting you to all domestic airports of the country.
