COLOMBO : The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has decided to withdraw from all court proceedings nationwide tomorrow.
President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Rajeev Amarasuriya, said the decision was reached after all members were summoned to Colombo for a special meeting.
The gathering was held to discuss the Association’s position following the fatal shooting of a lawyer in Akuregoda.
Although the Executive Committee of the Bar Association met Saturday, to deliberate on the matter, a final decision could not be reached, prompting the convening of a full membership meeting.
This marks the first time since 2012 that the Bar Association has called a meeting of all its members.
The previous occasion was during the impeachment proceedings against former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake. News first
