Australian Governor-General Ms Sam Mostyn due in Colombo from Wednesday

COLOMBO — At the invitation of the Government of Sri Lanka, the Australian Governor-General Her Excellency Ms Sam Mostyn will visit Sri Lanka from Wednesday 6 – Sunday 10 August to celebrate and strengthen the bilateral relationship. This marks the first visit by an Australian Head of State to Sri Lanka.
The visit to Sri Lanka celebrates more than 75 years of diplomatic relations, underpinned by close people-to-people ties including the community of around 180,000 Australians of Sri Lankan descent. During the visit the Governor-General will meet with the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, and spend time learning about our shared interests in education, culture, business and preserving a stable and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
The Governor-General will visit a development project in Bandaragama, Western Province, open a mobile health clinic in Galle, and visit Mirissa Harbour to inspect Sri Lanka’s Vessel Monitoring System, all of which have been funded by the Australian Government.
