BATTICALOA : : From 9–11 July 2026, the Ambassadors and Heads of Mission of five ASEAN Member States in Sri Lanka (Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam) undertook a familiarization visit to the Eastern Province, engaging with provincial leaders, local authorities and the business community while exploring the region’s rich cultural heritage and growing economic potential. One of the highlights is the meeting with Honorable Governor of the Eastern Province.
The visit reflected ASEAN’s shared commitment to strengthening friendship and expanding practical cooperation with Sri Lanka. As one of the country’s most dynamic regions, the Eastern Province offers promising opportunities for collaboration in tourism, trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, education, renewable energy, blue economy and people-to-people exchanges.
By building stronger connections at both the national and local levels, ASEAN member nations and Sri Lanka continue to advance a partnership founded on mutual trust, shared prosperity and sustainable development.
