COLOMBO — The 52nd National Day of the UAE, organised by the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Colombo, was celebrated on Wednesday November 22 at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo. The theme of the evening was ‘Sustainability’, in keeping with COP28 UAE, the United Nations Climate Change Conference which is scheduled to take place in Dubai from 30th November to 12th December 2023. The event was graced by heads of state, members of parliament, heads of diplomatic missions and other dignitaries.
An art exhibition was held at the venue with the theme of sustainability in mind, displaying the Paintings of award-winning artist, Dr. Avanthi Jayasinghe. An artist who works mostly in the style of abstract and abstract realism, her work incorporated subjects such as climate change, biodiversity, Arabic heritage, zero-net emission, renewable energy, and mangrove environments, for this exhibition. The intense and vibrant colours of her paintings added a touch of liveliness and charm to the occasion.
