
COLOMBO : The Annual Prize Giving Day of Madhrasathus Sabeelur Rashad, which comes under the purview of Maligawatte Grand Jumma Masjid, held on the bright morning of 03 January 2026, was a momentous occasion that celebrated academic excellence, extracurricular achievements, and the holistic development of students. The Madhrasa currently nurtures nearly 150 students, playing a vital role in imparting Islamic education and moral values to the younger generation.
The event was meticulously organized under the guidance and leadership of the Madhrasa Principal, Moulavi Al Hafil Aslam Ihsani, together with his dedicated team of usthazs, whose tireless efforts were evident throughout the programme. In his address, Moulavi Aslam emphasized the institution’s vision and the collective efforts that made the academic year a resounding success.
The Chief Guest for the event was Khaleefathu Shazuli Moulavi Ahamed Soofi (Mahlari), the esteemed Principal of Ajward Al Fassy Arabic College. His inspiring address emphasized the importance of Qur’anic education, Islamic scholarship, and the responsibility of nurturing righteous future generations. His words resonated deeply with students, parents, and educators alike.
The students of Madhrasathus Sabeelur Rashad proudly showcased their talents through eloquent recitations of the Holy Qur’an, presentations on Hadith, and melodious renditions of Qaseedahs, reflecting the high standard of religious training and discipline instilled at the Madhrasa.
Prizes and certificates were awarded to students who excelled in various religious and academic activities, recognizing their dedication, hard work, and achievements. This acknowledgment served as a source of motivation for all students to continue striving for excellence in Islamic learning.
A notable highlight of the event was the large and enthusiastic participation of parents, demonstrating strong community support for the Madhrasa. Significantly, this marked the first occasion where ladies were permitted to attend an event of this nature, a progressive step that was widely welcomed and appreciated by the community.
The event was further honored by the presence of distinguished office bearers of the Maligawatte Grand Jumma Masjid, including Dr. Razeen Anver, President and Managing Trustee; Mr. A. H. M. Maheer, Senior Vice President; Mr. A. H. M. Iqbal, Vice President and General Secretary; Mr. Basheer Ahamed, Treasurer; and Board Members Ifham Saleem, A.C.M. Fayaz, M.Z.M. Yaseer, Razmi Rafeek, Nuzrath Ramiz, M. I. Nawshad, and Umair Nawshad. The presence of the Editor-in-Chief of Colombotimes Mr. Mohamed Cassim Rasooldeen as the Guest of Honour further elevated the significance of the event.
