COLOMBO : ” We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Tissa Vitharana, the leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP).
His dedication to progressive politics for all the people of the country, including the minorities and social justice, will continue to be remembered with great respect.
As a highly experienced Virologist, he was also a former Head the Medical Research Institute (MRI) and, despite being a partner in the then Government, he remained opposed to the mode of spread of the Corona virus and the forced cremation of those who died of the COVID-19 virus.
On behalf of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, we express our deepest condolences to his bereaved family, to all party comrades and supporters who were greatly inspired by his leadership qualities.”
