Ambassador of Sri Lanka presents Letters of Credence to the President of theRepublic of Tajikistan

COLOMBO : The High Commissioner of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Islamic
Republic of Pakistan with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Tajikistan, Fred
Senevirathne, presented the Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of
Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, at the Palace of the Nation on 15
April 2026.
The ceremony brought together nine newly appointed ambassadors, including those from
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, who are based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, as well as non-resident
ambassadors from Egypt, Italy, Belgium, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Mali, and Equatorial
Guinea, who formally assumed their diplomatic functions.
In his address, President Emomali Rahmon congratulated the ambassadors on the
commencement of their diplomatic missions in the Republic of Tajikistan, wished them
success, and conveyed warm greetings and messages to the leaders of their respective
countries.
He highlighted that during the period of independence from 1991, Tajikistan, pursuing a
balanced, peaceful, and constructive foreign policy based on the ‘open door’ principle, has
managed to secure a worthy place on the international stage.
Furthermore, President Emomali Rahmon recalled his visit to Sri Lanka in 2016 and the
inbound state visit of the former President of Sri Lanka in 2019. He also spoke at the
ceremony about the development and strengthening of friendly ties and mutually
beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Sri Lanka, particularly in the areas of
hydropower energy, the apparel industry, gems and jewellery, agriculture, healthcare, and
the pharmaceutical industry.
The Ambassador Fred Senevirathne conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of the
President and the people of Sri Lanka to the President and the people of Tajikistan and
reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding and friendly
relations with Tajikistan.
The presentation of Letters of Credence underscores a renewed commitment to advancing
diplomatic engagement and reinforcing cooperation between Sri Lanka and Tajikistan
across bilateral and multilateral platforms.
