
RIYADH : Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, met with Eng. Ahmed bin Turais Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE), together with the SCE Secretary General, Eng. Musaed Abdullah Al-Otaibi, at the Council’s headquarters in Riyadh. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the engineering sector, addressing challenges faced by Sri Lankan engineering sector professionals, and exploring potential employment opportunities for Sri Lankan engineering professionals in the Kingdom.
During the discussions, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad highlighted Sri Lanka’s highly skilled, well-educated, and competitive engineering workforce, which has earned international recognition for its technical competence, adaptability, and professionalism. While presenting potential categories of Sri Lankan engineering professionals for employment opportunities in the Kingdom particularly civil, mechanical, electrical, construction, software, telecommunications, and industrial engineering as well as Quantity Surveying & Construction Management, the Ambassador also discussed certain challenges faced by Sri Lankan engineering professionals in relation to their accreditation process in the Kingdom.
Commending the valuable contribution made by Sri Lankan engineering professionals to the Kingdom’s development, SCE Chairman Eng. Ahmed Al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of further enhancing bilateral cooperation in the engineering sector, as well as strengthening collaboration between the professional engineering bodies of both countries.
Both sides agreed to examine the challenges faced by Sri Lankan engineering professionals and work towards appropriate solutions to facilitate a smoother accreditation process. They also agreed to continue discussions aimed at further strengthening institutional cooperation in the engineering sector and promoting greater professional exchanges for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Senior officials of the Saudi Council of Engineers also participated in the meeting.
