All Ceylon YMMA conference with civil societies to settle displaced flood victims in a permanent area

COLOMBO: On an immediate necessity of evacuating the residents from areas identified as high landslide and flood risk in the Nawalapitiya electorate, an important discussion was held on Tuesday 16th August, between former minister Hon.Mahindananda Aluthgamage, MP and All Ceylon YMMA conference delegation led by Saheed M Rismy at the minister’s residence in Colombo, based on the letter sent by All Ceylon YMMA conference to the President Ranil Wickramasinghe on 12th August 2022.

 On matters pertaining to the mechanisms related to evacuation, relocation, housing & resettlement programs were deeply discussed and positive action points were reached.

All Ceylon YMMA Conferece past President Mr.K N Deen, Vice President of PAFFREL , District Director -Kandy Ihtisham Mohamed and Dr M Y M  Haneef , President  JJ Foundation  participated in this important discussion.

This session was  coordinated by Wazeer Mukthar ,MPS Yatinuwara pradeshiya sabha.

The former minister emphasized the value and importance of collective responsibility of both the government and private sectors including civil organizations in achieving the task of housing and resettlement in this area. He further assured the utmost support of the government in relocating the victims to a suitable environment and further assured to discuss the matter with the His excellency the President regarding allocation of adequate funds for housing.

ACYMMAC proposed to bring together many civil organizations and well-wishers including parliamentarians to initiate a fundraising campaign island-wide to expedite the resettlement process by supporting the government at this critical juncture to find the needed funds to complete the housing project.
