ADVENT OF RAMADAN: Chinese mission in Colombo distributes 650 packs of dry rations to deserving Muslims

COLOMBO : The Chinese embassy in Colombo distributed 650 packets of dry rations to deserving Muslims in the Maligawatte area on Wednesday, March 30.

Ambassador  Qi Zhenhong and his wife. Jin Qian donated food packages to 650 low-income Muslim families in Colombo, and conveyed sincere festival greetings from Chinese Muslim communities.

The ambassador said that the event was to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of China and Sri Lanka diplomatic relations.

Speaking on the occasion, the envoy said China has been helping the Sri Lankan economy for the past 65 years. “ We continue to help Sri Lanka. China has recently provided a number of loan package packages to Sri Lanka. We are also supporting various development projects in Sri Lanka.” He added.

Last year,the envoy said that China built and opened a hospital in Polonnaruwa. “ Similarly, we have built a state-of-the-art outpatient clinic with extensive facilities at the Colombo General Hospital. The hospital will be handed over to the Sri Lankan government within the next two months.”

 He also said that various services such as the Colombo-China Port Expressway are being assisted by China for the services of the people of this country. “ We will also be importing rice to Sri Lanka in two shipments next week.”

China is the most populous country in the world. China has the largest Muslim population. They have been given all the facilities without any hindrance to perform their religious duties fasting Hajj duties, he added.

The event held under the chairmanship of Rumi Amit, Secretary of the Muslim Rights Front.Municipal Councillors, AMJM Jaufer, Khalilul Rahman and Mohammed  Musammil were also present at the morning event.
