COLOMBO : A student died and 24 commuters were injured in a collision between a train traveling from Madawachchi to Mannar and a private bus coming from Mannar to Mannar Pier on Tuesday.
The incident took place at noon on Tuesday at Talaimannar Pier. The bus passengers were mostly students and teachers who were returning home after school.
The deceased was a 13-year-old student studying in Year Seven and he died on the spot. Hospital sources said two more students have been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital.
Following the accident, there was a large crowd thronged the hospital and some of them donated blood voluntarily to help the accident victims.
