An Appeal to Her Worship the Mayoress, Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Ms. Vraie Cally Balthazaar
Four Months of Silence: A Plea for Justice and Accountability in Public Healthcare
COLOMBO :The recent inaction over a grievance submitted against a medical officer at the CMC Borella Clinic highlights a disturbing pattern of apathy, bureaucratic delay, and institutional indifference that deserves public scrutiny. Despite an inquiry held on 24th February 2025 into the conduct of a medical officer accused of dismissive and emotionally cruel treatment of patients, no meaningful action has been taken by the Colombo Municipal Council to date.
This case—unresolved for over four months—has been marred by excuses and evasive responses from various officials. Files have been “misplaced,” inquiries “under review,” and responsibility passed endlessly from one officer to another. The public health system, intended to serve with compassion and ethics, is being undermined by such negligence.
This situation begs urgent questions: Is this a case of political protectionism? Has cowardice taken hold of decision-makers? Are health administrators simply disinterested? Has the public sector grown so indifferent that justice for patients no longer matters?
This is not just a personal grievance but a collective concern for all who rely on state medical services. Those who fail their duty—especially in healthcare—must face accountability. We urge the authorities to uphold justice and not let silence be the system’s final word.
