COLOMBO : A new digital system for issuing death certificates has been officially launched under the e-Population Register programme implemented by the Department of Registrar General.
The system was launched Thursday, July (23) at the Department’s auditorium in Battaramulla under the patronage of Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Prof. Chandana Abeyratne, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government P. Ruwan Senarath.
The new system replaces the previously used handwritten death certificates with digitally generated certificates through a computer-based data system.
The digital platform will enable the maintenance of an updated personal data system, efficient data sharing among government institutions, and secure storage of information while ensuring greater accuracy and safety of records.
Each digitally issued death certificate will include a special QR code that allows instant verification of its authenticity through the system. The certificates will be printed on specially secured paper containing advanced security features.
As part of the pilot project, the first digitally printed death certificate issued under the new system, initiated in the Kalutara District, was presented to Kalutara District Secretary H.M.S.P. Herath.
