COLOMBO : On the joyous occasion of the 61 st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka.
This year, the Maldives and Sri Lanka also commemorate the 61 st anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations. Yet, the ties that bind our two nations stretch back centuries, shaped by shared history, long-standing maritime links, vibrant trade, cultural exchanges, and enduring people-to-people connections. These deep-rooted bonds have fostered a close and trusted partnership that continues to flourish, providing a strong foundation for expanding cooperation and advancing our shared aspirations.
The frequent high-level exchanges between our two countries have further reaffirmed our mutual commitment to strengthening collaboration across a wide range of sectors, enabling us to explore new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, and deepening the trust and friendship that have long been the hallmark of our bilateral relationship.
As we celebrate this historic milestone, I am confident that the enduring friendship and partnership between the Maldives and Sri Lanka will continue to go from strength to strength, guided by our shared values and mutual aspirations.
