COLOMBO: At a discussion held with a special Israeli delegation during their recent visit to Sri Lanka; Manusha Nanayakkara, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment said that in response to his request for more job opportunities for Sri Lankan caregivers, the delegation had assured that the Israeli government will recruit 2,000 female Sri Lankan caregivers from this year.
The delegation asked the minster to give precedence for providing training to females as the prevailing cultural norms in Israel provided opportunities for females in patient care as opposed to males. They also pointed out that opportunities were available to local workers with English language proficiency, who have received professional training, adding that the Israeli government was ready to give opportunities for up to 8,000 qualified workers annually.
Both parties agreed to a transparent recruitment process with the minister requesting opportunities for the private sector to be involved in hiring.
