16 districts declared high-risk Dengue zones, Colombo heads the list

COLOMBO: National Dengue Control Unit Director Dr. Sudath Samaraweera yesterday said that 83 Medical Officer of Health Divisions (MOH) in 16 districts have been declared as Dengue High Risk Zones as the number of dengue cases have seen an unprecedented increase.

He said that Colombo District has been declared as the high risk district and 18 MOH divisions in the district have also been declared as high risk zones due to higher prevalence of dengue cases.

These High Risk Zones include Piliyandala, Homagama, Kaduwela, Kollonnawa, Pitakotte, Maharagama, Colombo and Colombo Municipal Council area, Moratuwa, Padukka, Boralesgamuwa, Hanwella, Kahathuduwa, Battaramulla, Rathmalana, Egoda Uyana and Gothatuwa.

Dr. Samaraweera said that Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Galle , Jaffna, Rathnapura and Kegalle districts have also been identified as Dengue High Risk areas. He said that 51.2 percent of dengue cases are reported from the Western Province. “Over 2416 patients were

diagnosed with dengue during the last eight days and 349 cases were detected on Thursday alone”, he said
